Men's Retreat Portugal: What Actually Happens
A men's retreat in Portugal is an immersive stretch of days where men step out of ordinary life and into a held container: sharing circles, body work, ritual, land, and the conversation most men have been postponing. At Men's Academy we call the deeper form an intensive. The next one is The Call of the Ancestors, Men's Intensive XI, 25 to 29 November 2026 at Monte Velho, Costa Vicentina.
If you are comparing men's retreats in Portugal, start with what the days actually contain. Marketing language is cheap. The timetable is not.
What happens at a Men's Academy retreat
You check in at 14:00 on the first day. Full board runs from that evening's dinner through brunch on the last morning. The land is Monte Velho, ocean-view shalas, forest trails, clifftop light on the Atlantic, vegetarian food cooked with care.
Inside the container: men's sharing circles, shadow work, shamanic journey, archetype embodiment, ancestral ceremony, sunrise gathering, ice bath, vision-quest breathwork and trauma release, temazcal, sound journeys, animal flow, sacred combat, Osho dynamic meditation, nature, silence. Not as a tourist checklist. The facilitators follow what the field is asking.
Themes we return to: the sacred masculine, embodiment, the four archetypes, shamanism and ancestral medicine, the union of masculine and feminine, the four directions and elements, body awareness.
Who a men's retreat in Portugal is for
The man who can feel a pattern that did not start with him. The father who does not want his son to inherit the same silence. The man who has done some work and knows it is not finished. First-timers are welcome. So are veterans. There is no prerequisite except willingness to be responsible for your own process and respectful of the men beside you.
This is not a wellness holiday with a men's label. It is not a bootcamp. It is not a place we promise you will be finished.
How this retreat is held
Three brothers facilitate: Alex Wirthl, Miguel Sevilhano, Pedro Collares. Horizontal leadership, no single hero. English is the working language; Portuguese and German translation can be held. Facilitation is on a sliding scale for locals, men flying in, and veterans of three or more Intensives. Accommodation is chosen on a call, not guessed from a grid. A conversation comes before a deposit. That call is part of the container. We check fit both ways. After the land, Foundational Training holds the weeks between. Facilitator Training is the long path of holding. Men's circles meet every month. Book a call.
