Men in a held process during men's work, distinct from a therapy room, at Men's Academy

Men's work vs therapy

Men's work vs therapy is not an either-or, and it is not the same thing. Therapy is a clinical relationship, usually one man with a trained practitioner. Men's work is men meeting without a performance, telling the truth, and taking responsibility for what that truth asks. One can sit beside the other. Neither replaces the other.

Men's work vs therapy

Therapy, counselling, and psychiatry can diagnose, treat, and hold a crisis. Trauma that is still flooding the week may need a clinician, not a circle of peers. If you are in immediate danger, local emergency services come first. Men's Academy is not a clinic. We will not pretend a weekend on the land is a treatment plan.

What men's work is for

Men's work is for the man who is functioning and still unseen. The distance at home. The pattern that insight has not changed. The father he swore he would not become. A men's circle is the monthly door: first person, no advice, confidentiality. An intensive is days on the land, body included. Foundational Training is the weeks between. That is the architecture at Men's Academy. No gurus. Three brothers.

A circle is not a cheaper therapist. A therapist is not a room of brothers.

And men's coaching?

Men's coaching, as most men search for it, is one man paid to guide another toward a goal. That can be useful. It is a different contract. Here, no one is hired to fix you, and no one is on a pedestal. If you want the room, book a call. If the question is ancestral work for men, that letter is separate. If you need somewhere to sit this month, start with how to find a men's group.

Questions men actually ask

Men's work vs therapy: what is the difference?
Therapy is clinical and usually one to one, with a licensed practitioner who can diagnose and treat. Men's work is communal, embodied, and witnessed by other men. It does not diagnose you.
Can I do men's work and therapy at the same time?
Yes. Many men do. Therapy can hold what a circle must not be asked to treat. A circle can hold what a single hour with a professional cannot: being seen by brothers, over time.
Is Men's Academy men's coaching or counselling?
No. Men's coaching is usually one man paid to guide another. Counselling is a clinical relationship. This house is a men's circle, Foundational Training, and a men's intensive. If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first. If you are in despair and have no one, write sos@mensacademy.org.

The next step

Book a call. We check fit both ways.

Every man speaks with us before he registers. The conversation is part of the container, not a sales funnel.
